We will spend 4 or 5 weeks on short fiction, 4 or 5 weeks on poetry, and 4 or 5 weeks on drama. There will be a short paper to write about fiction when we finish that unit, as well as an in-class quiz (or call it an exam if you prefer). There will also be a paper to write about poetry when we finish that unit, as well as an exam. Finally, there will be a paper and exam to write when we finish talking about drama.

You are expected to attend classes, read the works assigned for each day, and participate in class discussions. Your grade will be based on your papers, on the exams, and on your participation in class discussions.

I will give you detailed instructions about how to write your papers and detailed feedback when I give them back. The exams will be composed of two parts, one a simple ID quiz that will present passages and ask you to name the author and title of the works we read. The second part will be to write commentary on those passages.

Though the exact dates of the exams are papers are not fixed yet, you should use this outline to prepare for the approximate dates of both.
