The Professional Experience component of the MA may take the form of an internship at a museum, research institute, historic library, school, gallery, or foundation; a teaching or research assistantship at John Cabot University; or an entrepreneurial project that benefits a cultural institution, structured as a research assistantship with a JCU professor. The syllabus (formative project description, duties, and outcomes) varies by project. Students are responsible for identifying their own potential addresses for this component in consultation with JCU Career Services and the MA internships coordinator. Students meet for at least ten hours during the term, during this time block, for instruction with the MA internships coordinator, in addition to the minimum 120 hours of work for the internship, assistantship, or project. Pre-requisite: completion of all Foundation Year requirements and approval of MA director (requirement waived in 2020 for second-year students completing coursework in Fall 2020 due to the covid pandemic).
