This topics course introduces students to the extraordinary vitality and complexity of Italian 20th-century art, with a primary focus on painting, sculpture and installation, and a secondary focus on architecture, performance, film and video art. Alternating in-class lectures and on-site visits, the course further aims to familiarize students to the methods, debates and resources in art historical research of the late modern and historical contemporary period in Rome. Organized chronologically, the course begins in 1909 and finishes in 1979.
